Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?

In the world of rock ‘n’ roll few relationships have been as publicly fraught as that of Noel and Liam Gallagher, the brothers who formed the backbone of Oasis. Known as much for the turbulent relationship as for their chart-topping hits, the Gallaghers provided a fascinating case of sibling rivalry. It’s a story of miscommunication due to differing personalities, family ties and professional pressures.

Having said all that, it now appears they appear to have overcome these issues and reformed. So what happened?

Well I can’t be sure, but I think it could be something to do with a TV interview I saw a few months ago which Liam Gallagher gave. In it he was asked whether he would reform Oasis and he replied he would, it was Noel who was not interested. Then he was asked what the problem was and this was his reply “The problem is, I know I’m part of the problem but Noel thinks he’s not part of the problem, that’s the problem”. An unexpectedly insightful moment from the younger, rawer and more impulsive Gallagher brother.

What he’d demonstrated (possibly for the first time) was emotional intelligence. He understood he had issues and knew what they were, enabling him to express himself in a way which communicated what he wanted to say. It was good enough to enable Noel to hear what he was saying and take it on board. Communication had occurred.
